충남지역 독립운동가들에 대한 기억 전승 : 『湖西忠義行略』을 중심으로
『호서충의행략』은 ‘先烈遺蹟表闡會’라는 단체에 의해 1949년 8월에 간행되었다. 조악하게 인쇄된 팸플릿 형태의 자료로 9장의 분량에 수록된 인물도 2 2명에 불과하다. 저자는 현재 알 수 없으나 수록 인물과 서술 방식 등을 통해 저자의 성향을 짐작할 수 있다. 즉 22명의 수록 인물 중에 상당수가 유림이자 의병이며, 문장 표현 등이 한문 형식으로 볼 때, 저자는 유학을 깊이 배운 인물로 추정할 수 있다. 충남지역에 많은 독립운동가들이 존재하고 있었지만, 『호서충의행략』에 22명만을 선정하여 수록한 것은 적어도 저자의 생각에 그들이 충남지역을 대표하는 자랑스러운 인물들이라고 판단하였기 때문일 것이다. 특히 『기려수필』등에 미처 수록하지 못했던 인물들도 기록하여 당대까지 전해진 기억을 잊지 않 도록 후대에게 전승한 점은 주목할 만하다. 『호서충의행략』은 해방 직후 혼란스 러운 시대적 상황 속에서 충남지역 독립운동가들에 대한 기억을 정리하여 후세 에 전승하려는 노력은 그 자체로 의미가 있다.
Transmitting Memories of Independence Activists of Chungnam Area : As Seen in the 『Hoseochungeuihaengnyag (湖西忠義行略)』
This article reviews the transmission of memories on the independence activists of Chungnam area, as seen in the memoir of the 『Hoseochungeuihangnyag』. The memoir was published in August 1949, by the group known as the 'Seonyeolyujeokpyocheonhoe (先烈遺蹟表闡會)'. The 9 page long, crudely printed pamphlet only contains memoirs of 22 independent activists of the era. The writer of the memoir is still unknown, but the directions and dispositions of the writer is evident by the choice of the subjects and description of the memoir; as most of the activists were Confucian scholars who were in the Righteous Army, and the writing forms and styles of the memoir, it is estimated that the writer of the memoir was a trained Confucian scholar. In the writer's point of view, the 22 activists in the 『Hoseochungeuihanghyag』 were the illustrious representatives of the Chungnam independence activists. It must also be noted that the memoir transmitted records of the activists who were omitted in the 『Giryeosupil』. The 『Hoseochungeuihangnyag』 may have less value as historic material as the 『Giryeosupil』, but the writer's effort to record and transmit memories on the Chungnam independence activists in the turbulent times of 1949, shall be noted.
