지시표현 사용의 문제점과 교육 방안
｢구어체적 글쓰기와 그 문제점｣은 학생들의 글을 점검하다 보면, 대화할 때 말하는 방식을 글로 옮겨놓은 듯한 느낌을 받는 데서 출발한 논의였다. 지시표현 사용에서도 마찬가지였다. 지시표현을 쓰지 않아도 되는데, 쓰는 경우가 많이 발견되었다. 굳이 필요하 지도 않은데 쓰고, 문장이 시작될 때 습관적이란 생각이 들 정도로 거의 규칙적 으로 쓰이는 경우도 다반사였다. 긴 문장의 경우, 서너 번 사용되기도 했다. 무엇 을 지시하는지 알 수 없기도 하였다. 말과 달리 글에서 지시표현은 신중할 필요가 있다. 무엇을 지시하고 무슨 기 능을 하는가를 점검하면서 읽어야 하기에, 이해하는 데에 시간이 오래 걸릴 수도 있고, 잘못 사용되면 내용이 이해하기 어려워지기 때문이다. 무엇을 지시하는지 분명하게 해야 할 때, 아니면 지시표현의 수사적 기능이 필요할 때가 아니면 되도록 사용하지 말 것을 제안했고, 실제 학생 글의 수정안 을 통해 점검해 보았다.
Problems with the Use of Deictic Expressions and Educational Suggestions
The discussion on 'Colloquial Writing and Its Problems' started from the feeling that students' writing seemed to be transcribed directly from the way they speak in conversation. The same goes for the use of deictic expressions. It was often found that deictic expressions were used when they didn't need to be. They were used even when they were not necessary, and they were used almost regularly to the point where it seemed habitual when a sentence began. In long sentences, they were used several times. Sometimes, it was unclear what they were pointing to. Unlike spoken language, deictic expressions in writing need to be used carefully. This is because it may take a long time to understand them, as they need to be checked for what they are pointing to and what function they serve, and if used incorrectly, the content can be difficult to understand. It was suggested not to use them unless it is necessary to make it clear what they are pointing to, or when the rhetorical function of the deictic expression is needed. The revised versions of actual student essays were then examined.
