중국 내셔널리즘과 ‘동북(東北)’ 표상 : 영화 <양징위(楊靖宇)>와 <장진호(長津湖)>를 중심으로
본고는 최근 중국 내에서 제작되고 있는 주선율 영화 속에서 ‘동북’이라는 공 간이 중국 내셔널리즘의 표상으로 재현되는 방식과 그 상징성에 대해 고찰한다. 근래 제작되고 있는 다수의 영화 속에서 ‘동북’은 ‘항일’과 ‘항미’라는 두 가지 키 워드를 중심으로 중국의 영광스러운 승리의 역사를 대변하는 공간으로 표상화된 다. 그리고 이러한 현상은 최근 중국 내셔널리즘의 확장과 대외관계 변화에 있어 서도 중요한 시사점을 제공한다. 이를 토대로, 본고는 근래 중국에서 제작, 상영 되었던 대표적인 ‘항일’ 서사 영화 <양징위(楊靖宇)>와 ‘항미’ 서사 영화 <장진호 (長津湖)>에 대한 분석을 시도한다. 항일 영웅 양징위의 일대기를 그려낸 영화 <양징위>는 근래 중국에서 강조되고 있는 ‘14년 항전 역사’와 맞물리며 중국 항 전사에서 ‘동북’의 위상을 강조한다. 아울러 영화 <장진호>에 대한 분석을 통해 ‘항미원조(抗美援朝)’ 전쟁 참전 결정과 진행 과정에서 ‘동북’이 담당했던 역할을 되짚어보고, 최근 중·미 갈등의 격화 상황에서 ‘항미’라는 키워드를 전면적으로 드러내는 중국의 정치적 의도를 살펴본다. 이와 같은 연구는 궁극적으로 20세기 격동의 중국 현대사에서 ‘동북’이 지니는 위상과 정치·역사적 의미를 다시금 고 찰하는 기회를 제공한다.
Chinese Nationalism and ‘ Northeast ’ Representation in Chinese Movies : Focusing on Yang Jingyu and Lake Jang Jin
This article examines the representation of ‘Northeast’ in the recent Chinese mainstream movies as a sacred place of China’s glorious victory over enemies during modern era, mostly focusing on two key notions of ‘Anti-Japaneseness’ and ‘Anti-Americanism.’ This concept provides meaningful insight on recent the expansion of Chinese nationalism and changes in China foreign relations. To explore above in details, this article analyses ‘Anti-Japanese’ narrative film Yang Jingyu and ‘Anti-American’ narrative film Lake Jang Jin as an examples. Yang Jingyu, a story of historical Anti-Japanese resistance member Yang Jingyu, shows the importance of ‘Northeast’ in the light of ‘14 years anti-Japanese history’ in China, while Lake Jang Jin demonstrates a political importance of ‘Northeast’ for China during Korean War, ‘the war to resist U.S and aid Korea’ and examines an intention of Chinese government to build up nationalism using ‘resist U.S’ message. Based on examples of these two films, this article provides an opportunity to reconsider the political and historical meaning of ‘Northeast’ in Chinese modern history.
