인문도시를 위한 시민인문학의 한 사례 ― 제주에서 철학하기
우리가 어떤 일을 하든, 그것을 하는 의미와 목적과 이유를 알아야 한다. 도 대체 왜 살아야 하고, 어떻게 사는 게 잘 사는 것인가? 인간은 어떤 존재이고, 어 떻게 사는 게 인간답게 사는 것인가? 그러나 인간은 구체적 개인으로 살아가기 때문에 인간이면 누구나 안고 있는 보편적 문제도 있지만, 시대, 지역, 계층에 따 른 사회적 문제, 그리고 개인마다 다른 실존적 문제들을 안고 살고 있다. 따라서 인문학은 인간이면 누구나 안고 있는 문제를 다루는 일반 인문학뿐만 아니라 시 대, 지역, 연령, 계층, 직업 등 특수 상황을 고려한 다양한 맞춤형 인문학이 필요하다. 지역이 달라지면 인문학도 달라져야 한다. 제주도는 자연환경, 역사문화, 정 치사회 측면에서 우리나라 다른 지역과 다른 점이 많다. 제주가 안고 있는 여러 현안 문제들, 이를테면 개발과 보존, 전쟁과 평화, 열림과 닫힘, 지역정체성, 선 주민과 이주민간 문화적 갈등, 지역의 미래비전 등에 대해서도 철학적 고찰, 더 나아가 인문학적 고찰이 필요하다. 따라서 제주지역에서 행해지는 인간다운 삶 을 위한 철학적 담론과 제주의 자연, 사회, 역사, 문화 등에 대한 철학적 고찰의 사례가 다양한 인문도시를 위한 맞춤형 시민인문학의 문을 여는데 작은 도움이 되기를 기대한다.
An Example of Civil Liberal Arts for Humanity City ― Philosophizing on Jeju Island ―
Whatever we do, we need to know the meaning, purpose and reason of doing it. Why should I live, and how do I live? What are humans, and how should humans live? Individual lives as specific human beings, not as a universal human being. Humans have not only universal problems, but also generational, regional, social, and personal problems. Therefore, we should have a variety of customized liberal arts, considering regional, age, hierarchy, and occupation, as well as general liberal arts, dealing with issues common to all humans. If things change, liberal arts should change. Jeju Island is different from the rest of Korea in terms of natural environment, historical culture, and political society. Various issues surrounding Jeju Island, such as development and preservation, war and peace, openness and closure, regional identity, and regional vision, need philosophical consideration. I hope that the philosophical discussion of humanities debate in Jeju and the philosophy of nature, society, history, and culture will help to explore the civil liberal arts and humanity city.
