야마다 에이미(山田詠美)의 ‘청춘소설’ 연구
야마다 에이미는 기존의 남성중심적 시각에서 탈피하여 여성의 감성과 사고 에 바탕을 둔 연애소설을 주로 발표하였는데, 연애소설과 더불어 10대 청소년들 의 일상생활을 다룬 다양한 ‘청춘소설’로 주목을 받아왔다. 먼저 야마다는 『제시의 등뼈』라는 작품을 통해 남녀의 사랑에 의해 태어났지 만 부모의 이혼으로 정서적 아픔을 겪는 소년의 심리와 내적 성장을 묘사하였다. 이후 『풍장의 교실』에서는 집단 따돌림으로 고통받는 소녀를 통해 일본사회의 집단주의를 비판하였고, 『방과 후 음표』에서는 집단주의에 맞서 홀로서기를 감 행하는 여고생들의 모습을 그렸다. 또 『나는 공부를 못해』에서는 학벌 중심의 주입식 교육을 비판하며 ‘공부’의 진정한 의미를 찾아가는 남자 고등학생의 모습을 다뤘다. 야마다 에이미는 그녀의 소설을 통해 10대 청소년들이 주체성을 가진 독립된 인격체임을 명확히 하였다. 또한 일본사회의 집단주의와 주입식 교육을 비판하 며 다양한 가치관의 중요성을 피력하였는데, 이러한 그녀의 문학세계는 청춘소설 이라는 하나의 장르로서 평가받고 있다는 점에서 문학사적 의의를 가진다고 볼 수 있겠다.
A Study about Amy Yamada’s Youth Novels
Amy Yamada(1959∼) broke away from the previous male-centered perspective and mainly has written love stories based on emotions and thoughts as a woman. Meanwhile she has drawn attention for various ‘youth novels’ that deal with the daily lives of teenagers. First, Yamada described the psychology and inner growth of a boy who was born out of the love between a man and a woman but suffered from the divorce of his parents by the "The Jesse’s Backbone". Later, she criticized collectivism in Japanese society through the girl suffering from bullying with the help of "The Classroom of Aerial Sepulture" and depicted high school girls standing alone against such collectivism by "After School Keynotes". Lastly, she described the male high school student who criticized academic-oriented cramming education and seek after the true meaning of ‘study’ in "My Grade is Not Good". In Amy Yamada’s novels, she clarified that teenagers are independent individuals with identity. In addition she criticized collectivism and cramming education in Japanese society and expressed the value of diversity. Her literary world is regarded as a genre of youth novels, and it has literary historical significance.
